SINOPEC Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. (SSEC), formerly named Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Design Institute, and SINOPEC Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Design Institute etc., was founded in 1953. And is one of the earliest comprehensive design institutes engaged in the Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical and Chemical engineering design in China.

    Business scope of SSEC is divided into three parts, including: Petrochemical, Chemical Fiber, and Oil Refining; Pharmaceutical, Bioenergy and Biochemical; and Environmental Protection, Electronic Industry, Light, and Food Industries, Natural Gas Storage and Transportation, etc. SSEC provides the services ranging from Project Initial Planning & Consultation, Feasibility Study, General Planning and Engineering Design, Procurement, EPC Contracting, Project Management and Technology Development, etc.

    SSEC has the Comprehensive Engineering Design Qualification Certificate issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction of PRC, which allowed us to undertake Construction Engineering Design Work in more than 21 trades like Chemical, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical; Petroleum & Natural Gas; Commodity Goods and Grain; Light & Textile Industry; Architecture; Metallurgy; Electronic Communications Radio & Television; and Public Works etc. SSEC also has Class A Qualification Certificate for Environmental Evaluation, Engineering Consultation, Engineering Cost Estimate, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping etc., and Class B Qualification Certificate for Construction Enterprise. SSEC obtained the ISO9001 quality management system certificate and ISO14001, GB/T28001, HSE management system certificate; SSEC has its own patent technology, equipped with advanced 10 Gigabit Ethernet office network, and sponsored the technical publications of Chemical Equipment & Pipes, Pharmaceutical Machinery, and Pharmaceutical Engineering Design.

    More than 80% out of the 1300 employees of SSEC are professionals engaged in the engineering design and services. Among the professionals, there are 3 state-level design masters, over 700 senior engineers and engineers, and about 300 certified engineers.

    In the past fifty years, SSEC has finished more than 6000 projects at home and abroad, and awarded more than 400 prizes of Excellent Engineering Design, EPC Lump Sum Work, Project Management, Science & Technology Progress Awards, including a large number of key projects that represents advanced standard in Petrochemical, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries of China.

    For the past many years, SSEC has cooperated with world petrochemical and pharmaceutical giants such as Shell, BP, Exxon Mobile, BASF, Bayer, Dow Chemical, Novatis, BMS, Pfizer, Janssen, Glaxo, etc., in providing engineering design and project management service for their projects. SSEC has forged a close relationship with workd famous engineering companies such as Bachtel, Fluor, Toyo, Chiyoda, Technip, JGC, Lugi, Amec, CTCI, Lummus, FW, TR, Aker, etc., and jointly performed a number of key projects in China and overseas, which won high recognition and reputation.
